Who We Are

Meghan Ward

Native to Ottawa, Ontario, Meghan has always had a heart for finding creative means of assisting people in need. Her interest in the AIDS crisis was fuelled by Stephen Lewis himself after hearing him speak at Queen’s University in September of 2003. Since then, she has had a strong, personal connection with The Stephen Lewis Foundation. The Mountain Movement has provided an incredible opportunity to combine her love for outdoor activities, her work as a server in Banff National Park, and her passion to ease the pain of HIV/AIDS in Africa. In April 2007, she completed a degree in Drama and International Development Studies at Queen’s, and spent the past year travelling abroad and working in the Rockies. She is now a freelance writer based in Banff, Alberta. See her website for more information: www.meghanjoyward.com.

Paul Zizka

Native to Quebec City, Paul is an experienced traveller and all-around outdoor enthusiast. A graduate of UVIC’s Earth and Ocean Sciences program, he has always had a passion for the geological world but has also had an interest in social activism. He has toured Europe and travelled to several countries, such as Iceland, Bolivia, and Peru, however, his trip to Ethiopia in March 2006 marked his first real encounter with the AIDS crisis. Struck by the poverty, sickness, and destitution there, Paul found his goals for the campaign to be all the more pertinent. In January 2007, Paul set his eyes on New Zealand for a winter campaign event, The Aroka Project. In an effort to raise awareness and funds, Paul trekked the South Island of New Zealand, and covered approximately 1500 km in 40 days. He is now a professional photographer and hiking guide based in Banff, Alberta. See his website for more information: www.zizka.ca.
